Who's Who at Her Honor: Team Gordon/Snell

Chenelle Gordon of Mount Vernon High School gets hands-on experience during her mentorship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine with her mentor, Dr. Heather Snell. Chenelle’s mentorship is particularly unique as she works alongside scientists in the laboratory conducting research and experiments. Chenelle remarks, “I truly feel like a little scientist”

From working with lab mice to studying cells under a microscope and analyzing her research and findings, Chenelle’s mentorship is truly one of a kind. The responsibilities and roles in the laboratory have inspired Chenelle to grow her confidence and become more independent in her work. Despite being the only high schooler in the room, she stands out as she is eager to step outside her comfort zone and grow scientifically.

Dr. Snell remarks, “Sometimes having students in the lab can slow down the research process because you have to take the time to teach them the techniques and go over them a few times for them to really get a hold of it. Chenelle is the complete opposite of this and it has been fantastic to have her with me in the lab… It has been a joy witnessing her open up to me and become more comfortable in our conversations. I can't wait to see what she accomplishes in the future. No matter what it is, I am sure she will be amazing”
